Bentonite

What is bentonite?

Bentonite is a naturally occurring montmorillonite clay known for its ability to absorb water, swell, and form a stable gel — properties that make it essential for drilling, foundry, filtration, and industrial sealing applications.

We mine and process bentonite clay directly from our own deposits in Iran, supplying drilling bentonite, HDD bentonite, cat litter bentonite, and activated bentonite for oil refining and bleaching — in both powder and granular form — to industrial buyers across Europe, the CIS region, Turkey, and the Middle East.

Product Range

One clay, four working grades

Bentonite performs differently depending on what it needs to do downhole, in a litter tray, or in a bleaching vessel — we grade and process for each job specifically.

Drilling Bentonite

Used in oil & gas and water-well drilling fluids, this grade is selected when the priority is borehole stability and consistent viscosity under downhole pressure.

Bentonite HDD

For horizontal directional drilling, this grade is engineered for higher lubricity and cuttings removal at low annular pressure.

Cat Litter Bentonite

Selected for its clumping strength and odor-neutralizing capacity, this grade suits manufacturers producing clumping litter products at scale.

Activated Bentonite (Bleaching Clay)

Acid-activated for maximum surface area, this grade is used by edible oil refiners and petrochemical processors to remove color bodies, gums, and impurities.

Bentonite Powder

Bentonite clay powder

Bentonite clay powder is the most widely traded form of bentonite, produced by grinding raw ore to a fine, consistent particle size (typically 200 mesh or finer) so it hydrates quickly and disperses evenly in liquid.

Kane Ara Sepahan supplies powdered bentonite in both sodium and calcium grades, mined and processed directly from its own deposits in Iran to meet drilling, foundry, and industrial specifications.

Because bentonite powder price depends on grade, mesh size, moisture content, and order volume, we don’t publish a fixed rate on this page — buyers can request a current quote based on their required specification and shipment terms.

Powder, Granules, Pellets, Lump
Comparison of bentonite types

Bentonite comes in four physical forms — chosen based on how the material is handled, not just its industry.

Powder

Hydrates fastest, suits drilling mud, foundry sand, and oil bleaching — dustier to handle.

Granules

Slower hydration, far less dust — preferred for cat litter and HDD applications.

Pellets

Compressed for slow, controlled hydration — used in well grouting and pond sealing.

Lump

Raw, unprocessed form — sold to buyers with their own milling capacity at the lowest per-ton cost.

Powder (≤200 mesh) hydrates fastest and suits drilling mud, foundry sand, and oil bleaching, though it’s dustier to handle. Bentonite Granules (0.5–3 mm) hydrate slower with far less dust, making them the preferred choice for cat litter and HDD applications.

Bentonite Pellets (5–25 mm) are compressed for slow, controlled hydration. Bentonite Lump is the raw, unprocessed form (20–150 mm), sold to buyers with their own milling capacity at the lowest per-ton cost.

Drilling Bentonite
Used in oil & gas and water-well drilling fluids, this grade is selected when the priority is borehole stability and consistent viscosity under downhole pressure — typically for vertical and conventional rotary drilling operations.
Bentonite HDD
For horizontal directional drilling (trenchless pipe and cable installation), this grade is engineered for higher lubricity and cuttings removal at low annular pressure — a different performance profile than conventional drilling mud.

Cat Litter Bentonite

Selected for its clumping strength and odor-neutralizing capacity, this grade suits manufacturers producing clumping litter products at scale, where consistent particle size directly affects clump integrity and dust levels.

Activated Bentonite (Bleaching Clay)
Acid-activated for maximum surface area, this grade is used by edible oil refiners and petrochemical processors to remove color bodies, gums, and impurities during the bleaching stage.
